Tru Jamaica Waco Relief

Dear Community,

It is with deep sadness that we bring you this news.

On the evening of December 8th, an electrical fire sparked in the building of Tru Jamaica Restaurant in the East Waco Community. The cement block building stands largely intact from the outside, but the fire was smoldering for hours, leaving significant unsalvageable damage to the commercial kitchen, dining room, electrical, HVAC, Roof, Artwork from the world-renowned artist and fellow Wacoan, Ira Watkins, and countless other losses. Thankfully, this occurred after hours, and the Tru Jamaica Team is unharmed.

Tru Jamaica’s insurance is assessing the damage to determine how much it will take to bring this business back to life. This begins a marathon of uncertainties for the TruJamaica family and staff. During this time, Tru Jamaica has expressed that they remain committed to the East Waco Community. In the meantime, in order to continue to support of their staff and employees and begin the journey of recovery as a small family business, we are starting a GoFundMe to help support this beloved restaurant in our community.
