True Grit a Grandmother's Sacrifice

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Ric Hill a retired US Marine. I met Lea about a year ago when one of my brother Marines asked me to assist her in moving her campsite out of a flood zone prior to a oncoming storm. My brother Marines have been helping Lea with school clothes for her grandchildren, auto repairs, fixing appliances, tutoring tuition, holiday meals and  handyman support. Unfortunately, there are things even Marines can’t fix without your help.

Lea has worn out her body cleaning apartments 7 days a week and she is not in good health.  Lea's life goal is to live and work long enough to get her grandchildren out of school and started in life. This lady may be small in stature, but has as more grit and determination than most people you will ever meet. Imagine you are almost 50, and you choose to raise your grandchildren, one with special needs, rather than see them go to foster care. Today, when you meet the children, they are well groomed, well dressed, well mannered and doing well in school. They are the fruit of Lea's sacrifice. In addition to work, she is a full time homemaker and home-schools the youngest child.

Lea needs a change of occupation to achieve her life's goal. Living in a tourist town, there is a demand for ride hailing such as Uber or Lyft. Lea's two old cars do not qualify for ride hailing services. Our goal is to get Lea a reliable late model car.  Here is her story.

When the grandchildren were very small, Lea lived an upper middle class life with her husband. After a divorce and the husband's business failing, Lea found herself impoverished and living on the edge of being homeless with two children. The only home she could afford was an old school bus converted into a crude recreational vehicle. While people enjoy camping, would you want to do it everyday? The shower and toilet are across the street in an unheated building. The laundry room is a tiny shed and the family room is a picnic table outdoors. The family lives in a less than 200 square feet that is both heated and air conditioned, the size of a small bedroom.

Recently, Lea's employer had her train three younger workers who had been hired for less wages than she was making.  Lea faithfully trained them and then her hours were reduced and she was demoted to doing laundry at a reduced salary. Lea has not been idle in trying to improve her family's situation. With the help of a friend, she is rehabilitating a 700 square foot house, but this latest downturn jeopardizes moving into the house. Lea has found more work, but she is having to put in even more hours to make ends meet. She will never be able to earn enough money to get herself a decent car and begin a new career.  Today, July 22nd the temperature is 108 degrees. Lea just spent her rent money to fix the air conditioner in the bus. Your donations will help Lea with her dream to get her grandchildren out of school and started in their own life.

Lea is a selfless, spiritual and independent woman who inspires and is loved by everyone who meets her. She needs your help so please donate for her, she would do it for you.

Any contribution is welcome no matter how small. Thank you for reading and God Bless you.
