Hi, my name is Melanie and my daughter Chloe is an amazing writer! She has been producing short stories and poetry since she was a wee lassie--- at 10 she wrote an entire adventure novel!
This school year, her junior year of high school, she worked with her creative writing teacher during non-class hours. She spent many hours fostering her writing skills in preparation for creative writing programs for college. During this process she decided to apply for the Iowa Youth Writers Studio, a youth version of the prestigious Iowa Writers Workshop. Out of over 600 applicants, she was one of the 130 talented youth accepted into the program.
I am very proud of my child for putting herself out there; it’s now my job as the parent to help her get to Iowa so she can attend this honorable program, the glitch is that my financial situation doesn’t allow for extras. This last year has been a challenge as I had a back injury and wasn’t employed for two months and then I’ve only had part-time work for the last 8 months. This is such an important opportunity toward her future goals and I don’t want my financial situation stop her from achieving her goal; one which she has worked hard for and is passionate about. It is for this reason that I am reaching out to others to help make this happen for her.
Here is what we do have thus far: through family member’s frequent flyer miles we have the round-trip flight to Iowa. We graciously received $700 in financial aid, but we must still contribute $1,800 to complete the total cost of the program plus expenses for supplies.
I encourage you to give a generous donation to help support a teen achieve her dream. Please share this campaign with others and may we all achieve our dreams!
Thank you!
