Troy's Safe Home

Thursday February 4th, 2016 my oldest brother, Troy, suffered a massive Cerebral Vascular Accident (Stroke) in the left side of his brain. He had 3 blood clots that had lodged into the main arteries supplying oxygen to his brain. 2 of the 3 clots were surgically removed by one of the best Neuro Surgeon's in the city.

As the days have past, his rehabilitation has progressed in leaps and bounds. From a flailing man I found in my Mothers arms on the kitchen floor, scared and confused, to smiling and heardily laughing at times. Troy is now coming to the realization the devastation that has occured to not only his body, but to his future. I dont believe there is a word I can describe for the heartache he is experiencing right now.

Troy has significant weakness to the complete right side of his body, and for right now cannot voluntarily control any part of the right side limbs. Results from MRI today show that he should regain use of limbs but speech and comprehension may be permanently affected. Family has been by his side this entire time so when he wakes up, a loving and familiar face is always present.

I would describe Troy as one of the most important people in my life. He would honestly give you the shirt off his back and the last penny in his pocket if he thought it would help you. I say this because I see him do it, time and time again. A month ago he gave a barefoot homeless man His shoes and jacket while it was 35* outside. He welcomed me into his home with my 2 kids (Im the little sister) when times were tough on my end and he never asked for any financial help, just welcomed us with open arms. Not having a dime for Christmas I gave him $80 to get the flat tire fixed on his car, he aired it up and spent 2 hours shopping for Christmas gifts for everyone because he thought everyone else needed it more than he did.

He is the most compassionate and caring man I know, despite the gruff and tuff shell and frequent profanities that escape his mouth. He is the most intelligent, witty, humorous, private, modest man I know.

I'm asking for help and I'm reaching out. Even with all the physical and emotional support received, Troy is going to need a safe home environment to live. We don't have a safe home for him right now and can't afford the labor and material cost that will take to make home safe.

Mom is and will continue to be by his side through all of this, we all will, but this doesn't pay the bills. Even though he will have another few weeks in the hospital and possibly a few months of rehabilitation, he will eventually return home. I would like to make it as comfortable and safe as possible. I know this will greately embarrass him but his safety is more important to me than his pride.

Please, please help. We can all only do so much.
