Troy Boerner's Medical Fund
Donation protected
My name is Julie, and I am fundraising for my friends, the Boerners, for Troy's medical expenses. Troy is a loving husband to his wife, Tina, and a proud father to children, Gabi and Tyson. In October of 2020, Troy had two strokes. In November, he had a third stroke. Then in December, he had a seizure. Doctors did not understand why a man of Troy's age was experiencing these things. After much testing without answers, Troy and Tina decided to head to Vanderbilt. There, Troy finally discovered his actual diagnosis. Troy has Susac's Syndrome. Less than six hundred people in the world have been diagnosed. Susac's Syndrome is a rare autoimmune disease that attacks the smallest blood vessels in your brain. Untreated, it can result in blindness, deafness, and multiple strokes. Even with treatment, Troy is currently suffering from cognitive impairment such as memory loss, slow processing, and inability to learn new information. These symptoms vary in different degrees from day to day, impairing his ability to function normally. Troy takes thirteen medications daily in an attempt to reprogram his immune system and also receives a six-hour IVIG infusion every three weeks. Troy regularly travels to Vanderbilt to see his team of specialists and sees a cognitive therapist weekly at Gateway. Due to the duration of Troy's issues, he is no longer able to work. Not being employed, coupled with numerous medical expenses, has resulted in a financial burden for this sweet family. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated and help to ease the struggle as this family moves forward trying to regain the health of their father and husband.
