Brandie's Cancer Fund

She lost.  Cancer won.  This just sucks.

Yesterday afternoon, August 18, 2015, Brandie lost her battle with cancer.  She died peacefully, surrounded by friends and loved ones with the voices of those she loved in her ears and in her heart.

Her religious community, The Church of Iron Oak, has so very graciously offered to match funds again to help her husband John pay the final medical bills and funeral costs.  Every little bit helps at this time and we are so grateful for this opportunity again.

Thank you and much love,

February 2015 -
Brandie Gramling has Stage 4 lung cancer.  There—I said it.  The hard part is over.  Now let’s see what we can do to help her fight this, okay?

About 4 months ago, doctors found a mass when doing a routine chest x-ray after Brandie fell in her kitchen.  Many tests later, they concluded it was squamous cell carcinoma and had spread into her sternum.  Treatment started almost immediately with 10 rounds of radiation (which finished in December) followed by 9 rounds of chemotherapy (which she is currently undergoing on a weekly basis).

As most of you know, Brandie and her husband John live on a fixed income of social security and the extra he picks up from his part time job.  Some of you may have noticed John working a lot more hours these past couple of months—now you know why.

Medicare is covering some of the expenses, but there are co-pays, deductibles, prescriptions for both these new medicines as well as her previous ones, something called a “doughnut hole” in their coverage, and many other costs associated with fighting off this horrible disease.

The Gramlings are proud people and have worked hard for all they have achieved in life.  They understand this public campaign will put them in a spotlight neither wish to be exposed to, but they also know the realities of life and the costs associated with fighting this cancer every step of the way.  I’m putting this campaign together for them to help alleviate some of the financial burden they will be facing in this coming year, and I’m going to happily be its first contributor.

I know times are tight and tough all around.  Please, if you can’t help financially, send healing energy, prayers, good thoughts, virtual hugs, woojies and other good stuff to Brandie.   Both she and John can use any and all good things at this time.  Thank you.
