Troop 728 Philmont High Adventure Fundraiser 


Hello and thank you for visiting Troop 728's Philmont High Adventure GoFundMe page. Would you like to help provide a life-changing outdoors adventure to group of deserving city-kids who serve their communities? Now you can!


First, a bit about us: Troop 728 is a registered Scout BSA troop, sponsored by the Church of the Good Shepherd, and based in the Inwood neighborhood of New York City. The Troop has served boys from Inwood, Washington Heights and the Bronx since 1947, and established a new girls troop just this year.


Now a bit about the trip: Troop 728’s Scouts will be making their first trip to Philmont, Scouting's New Mexico High Adventure Base, this August, and will complete a 9-day backpacking trek. A trip to Philmont is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and is designed for Scouts who have proven dedication and been of service to the community. The Troop Committee of Troop 728 has created this fundraiser to help reduce the financial burden of the trip for families. We especially want to assist Scouts who wish to go to Philmont but cannot consider it because of the expense.


The all-in cost for each Scout to attend Philmont is approximately $2,000 and breaks down like this:


$400 Round Trip flight ticket to New Mexico 
$965 Philmont Trek Fees 
$200 Food Budget per scout 
$75 Contribution For 15 passenger van 
$200 Additional Gear and Misc. Expenses 

With your help, we aim to reach our fundraising goal of $10,000. This, combined with subsidies we anticipate receiving from Philmont, will reduce our per-Scout expense to $400. Even if we don’t reach this goal, any money we raise will be applied in a way so that the maximum number of eligible Scouts can attend, and no one is left behind for financial reasons.


Scouting’s Philmont High-Adventure Base offers a uniquely nurturing experience for young adults to develop survival and life skills, leadership, responsibility, cooperation, self-awareness and problem-solving.  A Philmont trek instills appreciation and stewardship for our natural world, and stewardship of the great outdoors, our nation’s greatest resource.
