Eagle Scout Project for Josh Raia

Josh Raia is going for his Eagle Scout!
He is following in the footsteps of his father (Alex) and his brothers (Alex and Jack).  This is simply amazing to have the entire family Eagle Scouts.  Below is Josh Raia's proposal.  Please help me in supporting this incredible project.  All donations will be used to buy supplies and fund rental equipment needed for this undertaking.  Any and all additional funds will be given directly to the Teddy Roosevelt Bird Sanctuary.

Good luck Josh and cannot wait to see the final results.
Love Uncle Billy

****For my project, I will renovate/redo the pond at the Teddy Roosevelt Bird Sanctuary. The main pond is too small and currently does not meet the needs of the environment and the Bird Sanctuary. The pond has a rubber lined bottom that is becoming old and wearing down. My project would start by draining the pond to remove the old liner. The water will be drained into the surrounding woods with a sump pump. The old liner will be properly disposed.   After the liner is removed, we have to relocate the mud at the bottom because there are frogs and pond life that need to be preserved. We will use 5 gallon buckets to move the mud to a smaller water source at the sanctuary. We will then be using shovels to manually reshape and clean up the bottom of the pond. Next, a special clay, bentonite, will be used to create a new bottom for the pond. River stones will also go on top of the clay to create a natural bottom. The pond will then be refilled with a hose. Lastly, some native wetland plants such as Squarestem Spikerush and Threeway Sedge will be planted around the border pond.

SUPPLIES
- Granulated bentonite clay (60 fifty pound bags)
- One inch rounded river pebbles (4 yards of 3/4 inch pebbles)
- Native aquatic plants - We will be installing native border plants around the pond
- Renting a sump pump
- Renting a roto-tiller
- Palate of 200 river stones for border of pond
