The Trojans VEX IQ Robotics Team is heading to Louisville, Kentucky for the VEX Robotics World Championship Competition from April 28th to April 30th. This team from South Middle School earned a spot at the World Championship by winning the Excellence Award at the VEX IQ Middle School State Competition in Fairmont on February 23. They competed with 19 middle school level teams from across the state in events that tested their robot skills on a playing field as well as their knowledge of robotics programming and the engineering process. The Excellence Award as described by VexRobotics as "The highest award presented in the VEX IQ Challenge. This award is presented to a team that exemplifies overall excellence in creating a high quality VEX robotics program. This team is a strong contender in numerous award categories." Team members Peter Rice, Jason Bednarski, Patrick Mann, Alyssa Rugh, and Isaac Crumley were recognized for their student-driven excellence in robot skills, programming, and team work challenges.
The team is beyond excited for the chance to compete in the World Championship Competition . They are looking forward to learning from and working with the top teams from across the United States, Canada, China and the rest of the VEX IQ World. They already have improvement ideas for their robot strategy and programming and are already back to work practicing and preparing for World Championships. They are now looking for ways to raise funds to help pay travel expenses for one parent per student, plus support the team in extra expenses such as team t-shirts and a team party. We welcome sponsors to help us achieve this dream and chance to put West Virginia and Martinsburg South Middle School on the World Robotics Map!
