Fighting Pancreatic Cancer
Donation protected
As many of you may know, my mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2013. After multiple rounds of chemotherapy and a successful Whipple procedure, my mom was in remission for 2 years. This was truly a blessing from God. After that time, we have continued to do rounds of chemotherapy to keep her as healthy as possible. That being said, we recently found out her cancer is back, and she is currently in an incredibly difficult uphill battle against this horrible disease.
Throughout my moms treatment, we have received INCREDIBLE care at the University of Michigan Cancer Center. Dr. Diane Simeone was the surgeon that performed my mom's Whipple procedure, and Dr. Viabhav Sahai has been the best oncologist we could have imagined. As a die hard MSU fan, saying I like absolutely ANYTHING about Michigan is difficult.
In a couple of weeks, I will be running in my first (and most likely last:)) marathon, at the Bayshore Marathon in Traverse City. I have never, ever wanted to run a marathon, but I have decided to do this for something good in what is a very difficult time.
My goal is to raise $1,000 that will be donated directly to the research lab of Dr. Simeone & Dr. Sahai at U of M. Here is the caveat (and slight competition for the many MSU and U of M friends and family that I have)! To show my support of the great cancer care at U of M, I will run in a hideous Michigan shirt (it might even have a Harbaough face on it...) if I raise anything less than $1,000. If I can reach my goal or exceed $1,000, I will switch to running in my tried and true MSU shirt.
Please consider donating to support the life-changing cancer research that is going on at U of M. While I recognize this marathon is likely going to be one of the hardest things I have done, the greatest motivation for me is to raise awareness and funds for what is a horrible, horrible disease, a disease that has taken a great toll on my family. If my mom, the strongest, most inspirational woman in my life can batter cancer with a smile on her face, the least I can do is to do this. If you are unable to donate any funds, please consider praying not only for my mom, but also for all those battling cancer. Every little bit helps.
Thanks to you all for your consideration!
Lauren
