TritonHacks is a highschool-centric hackathon that aims to provide students of all backgrounds and experiences - especially novices and students in underserved communities - two days of STEAM exploration and collaboration. It will be held from May 15th, to May 16th, on a virtual venue.
During TritonHacks, students will be able to create and join teams to work on a collaborative project, attend technical workshops hosted by UCSD faculty and sponsors that will introduce them to new technologies, and spend the rest of their time hacking away at a project of their own.
For our first iteration of Triton Hacks, we are focusing our event around the needs and interests of the communities composing San Diego's South Bay region.
Most of the students from this area come from socioeconomically disadvantaged households and backgrounds, and most high-schools in the region have just began offering Computer Science classes compared to other districts in the county.
That said, any highschool student in San Diego is welcome to apply and join our event. Due to our transition to a virtual event, we're looking to include as many participants as we can. But we can only do so much without important support.
As students of UC San Diego, we have a responsibility in using the immense resources of our university in supporting the advancement and uplifting of the communities that harbor us. However, our resources alone isn't enough for an event as impactful as this.
We need your help. We need your voice. We need your advocacy.
With your support, you'll be funding essential items such as:
- Free swag and apparel for students and volunteers - such as shirts, badges, etc.
- Prizes for group and individual project categories
- Support infrastructure for students to utilize on the day of the hackathon
... and so much more.
