Triston Tjoelker Sarcoma Cancer Fund

Donation protected
In the spring of 2019 one of my oldest and most cherished friends’ son was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in his leg. In times like that a friend wants to be of comfort, but ironically (or maybe not) the comfort, faith, and hope came from the Tjoelker family as they faced this devastating news.

With his mother Jada by his side Triston bravely underwent 8 months of rigorous chemo and radiation treatment down at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Through it all the faith of this family in God never wavered. They shared gratitude and showed grace in the darkest scariest moments. Triston soldiered through the monotony and pain of treatment.

They asked for nothing except prayers.

From January until July, for what now seems like a moment, Triston was cancer free and his leg was safe. Tristons first year away at Central Washington University was abruptly cut short in 2019 and he could finally look forward to returning to his studies in the fall at Western Washington University.

But August scans show the cancer has returned. Amputation of Triston’s leg is at this point a certainty. 63 days (including recovery) of out-patient Chemotherapy has been prescribed. God willing this therapy will qualify Triston for stem cell treatment to increase his survival rate which will be another 6 weeks (42 days) in Seattle.

As I write this I struggle with my anger and fear. I want to shake my fist at the heavens, and who, but Jada, is the one there reassuring me that God has big, beautiful, wondrous plans (that are apparently none of our business). She reminds me now is the time our faith must not falter.

I truly can't imagine facing cancer and losing my leg all at once, yet Triston somehow despite this crushing news keeps his eye on that college dream.  His determined and positive attitude is truly humbling.

Lincoln, Jada, Triston, Taryn, Taya, and Trevin are a family strong and steadfast in God’s love.
And I know that this is not a comfortable issue for Triston or the Tjoelker family, but it is time to ask for financial help.

The greatest immediate need beyond prayer is the monetary means to secure meals, living expenses and lodging in Seattle. It will be vital to have a place near the hospital for Triston to rest and recover between treatments, as well as a place for his family to be by his side.

Additionally there will be costs associated with the special needs leg amputation presents.  If funds in excess of all these medical needs exist they will be put in trust for Tristons higher education.

A quick and very conservative estimate of 105 nights lodging at $100 per night alone comes to $10,500... I'm hoping we as a community can at the very least double that for the Tjoelker family.

All of this is in God's capable hands, but as his faithful servants we can help carry the financial burden of this beloved family and young man.

I want to remind everyone that there are no “small” acts of kindness. There are no prayers unheard. When we come together in God’s love all things are possible. God bless you for your generosity.
