Tristan and Kelsey's Flood Relief
Donation protected
I'm Mary Beth Goring from Los Angeles, California. Two weeks ago my son Tristan Hahn and his fiancée, Kelsey Livingston, were celebrating her MFA, a three year effort that had taken them to Baton Rouge in 2013.

We didn't know then that a week later, their home would be inundated in three feet of water and most of their belongings would be destroyed in the process.

Kelsey has documented the story of their escape as they waded out of the neighborhood, their little dog Cornelius paddling along behind in his life vest. A kind stranger picked them up in the back of his pick up truck and gave them a ride to their grandparents' home in a nearby neighborhood.
"The flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us, the raging waters would have swept us away." Psalm 124:4-5
"Reach down your hand from on high. Deliver me and rescue me from the mighty waters." Psalm 144:7
"Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters." Psalm 77:19
Here is is a sketch that Kelsey drew which shows them wading the half mile to the nearest dry road.
"He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot." Psalm 66:6
When the waters receded four days later, they were able to return to their home, and this is what they found.

Whatever could float, did. Whatever was under the three foot water line got soaked, and most of it is beyond saving.

Bookcases buckled and fell apart.

The refrigerator toppled, spilling its contents across the floor. Worms, snakes, and insects were found throughout. The smell of mold, sewage, and rot permeated the house.
Sadly, most of Kelsey's art, and art materials, tools of her trade, and art books have been destroyed, though the pieces already hanging in the walls were largely OK.

One of the main problems caused by the flood was the loss of both cars, Tristan and Kelsey's means of
transportation to their new jobs.

Three days of sitting in water has rendered the cars beyond repair. One car has comprehensive insurance, the other does not, as it is 19 years old.
Saddled with student loan debt, it will be impossible for Tristan and Kelsey to reboot their lives without help.
Our goal is to raise enough money to help Tristan and Kelsey replace one car, the refrigerator, stove, washer, dryer, bed, sofa, and the other personal belongings not covered by flood insurance.
Will you you help us reach this goal? No contribution is too small. Together, we can help this young couple to
get back on their feet, launch their careers, and be ready for their spring 2017 wedding. Thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for reading Tristan and Kelsey's story and for considering whether you can provide prayers and support.
"Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away." Song of Songs 8:7
