Trisomy 18 awareness and our family

Many of you know that Jay and I were expecting, well unfortunately, I went into preterm labor Friday Aug 12th and delivered our baby boy at only 24 weeks. He was born at 3:20am Aug. 13 2022. He was 10.5 inches long and weighed 13.5 ozs. He was so incredibly tiny but he was a fighter. We were able to spend 3 hours and 13 minutes with our little angel before he passed. He was just too small and his lungs were not developed enough. We received a diagnosis of Trisomy 18 for our baby boy when I was 12 weeks pregnant through the genetic testing and then confirmed with an amniocentesis when I was 16 weeks. We knew the possibilities that went along with the diagnosis, but never imagined this as our outcome. We are asking for some help with medical expenses and monthly bills due to me having to be out of work for a while, which will cut our monthly income in half. Anything at all will help and we thank everyone in advance.

For those who are unaware of what Trisomy 18 is, it’s a chromosome disorder that’s causes an extra 18th chromosome. The outcome of this diagnosis can result in major heart defects, defects of other organs, facial and limb defects, and severe intellectual disability. It causes baby’s to be smaller and more frail when developing. There is high risk of miscarriage early in pregnancy or late in pregnancy and most babies do not survive very long after being delivered, even at full term.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for helping in any way possible.
