Hello Dear Friends and Family,

As many of you know our Beloved Sister Trish McAfee has been battling Breast Cancer.  On June 8th 2016, my sister was diagnosed with Stage 2B Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, a very aggressive fast growing type of cancer.  The news was devastating, she was 35 years old at the time of her diagnosis and it was a lot to take in. But If you know Trish, then you know she is one of the most optimistic, cheerful and loving people you could meet. And even though having cancer is serious and can be scary, my sister is strong and brave. After all her preliminary medical testing came through the medical team made a plan and on July 7th 2016 Trish’s battle against Breast Cancer began.

At this point I would like to thank my brother in law Justin, Trish’s Husband for being Awesome! He was and has been there for my sister every step of the way, a solid rock. Trish and Justin with their two daughters Jazmin and Kali live in Northern California. We try to visit as much as we can but the rest of the immediate family is scattered across California and Hawaii with the bulk of us in southern California. And I just want to recognize how amazing my brother in law truly is and how thankful I am that he is in my sister’s life and was there to care for her in her time of need. Thank you Justin words cannot express the depth of my gratitude.

And so on July 7th 2016 the 1st infusion of chemotherapy started and Trish and Justin also celebrated 14 years of marriage together. It just happened that her first chemo infusion also landed on their wedding anniversary. Over the next 5 months Trish would have 16 chemotherapy infusions in an effort to shrink the tumor masses found in both breasts. She experienced all the woes of having the chemicals pumped into her blood stream, hair loss, hot flashes, loss of sleep, neuropathy, nausea, and exhaustion to name a few but nothing cracked her smile. She still continued to teach at school as a 4th grade Spanish teacher and went to school to finish up her teaching credentials.

On December 7th, 2016 Trish goes into surgery, and has a double mastectomy to remove the malignant tumors, and goes into recovery. Expanders are put into place as placeholders for her reconstructive surgery later down the line. Recovery was tough, but we felt the main hurdle was over, the focus now was staying cancer free, focus on healing and moving forward.

Trish and Justin are always finding ways to give back to their community. Instead of having a traditional Thanksgiving holiday they cook turkey and feed the homeless. Justin is the Youth Minister for the Church of Christ in Livermore, CA and Trish Volunteers with the youth and elders alike in her church helping out in any way she can. This GoFundme Page was made to give back to Trish and her Family to help her pay for the medical expenses accrued and those to come. Any amount no matter how much will help! If you can’t donate we Ask you share Trish’s Story with friends, with family, with co-workers please help my sister.
