I was just invited to one of the most exclusive conferences in my industry. And I only have a week to commit and purchase my spot.
It’s an invite-only event called Epicurrence for creative web developers (what I do professionally) and designers, held all over the world. Some of the most influential people in my industry will be there, including some working at Facebook, AirBNB, Superfriendly, and other incredible companies. In fact, I was invited by a friend I made when his company, Crew , was attending the last Epiccurence on the North Shore earlier this year (I didn’t get to go).
This year it’s at Northstar Lake Tahoe in California and they’ve branded the conference as The Montues. Here’s their website montues.com. Fortunately, I’ll be living somewhat in the area. So friends, yes, some news. I’m moving to San Francisco in February. As many of you know, I’ve had the privilege of working at one of best design/branding agencies in Honolulu since graduating college. But too many signs have been pointing to making a jump. A lot of thinking has gone into this decision and I’m awfully excited about it.

The flip-side of that is that money is tight. Moves like this aren’t cheap — especially when you don’t have a job lined up — and I’m having to be careful with how I spend what I’ve saved. But getting this invite has me torn up! I’m dying to go to this event, but it’s just not feasible that I take advantage of this opportunity on my own.
That’s where I’m left off wondering how I can manage to raise the funds. Taking out a loan crossed my mind, as well as other means of acquiring money quick, but I feel now isn’t the time at such a slippery point in my career. So I’m left to plead with you. Could you spare some funds to help get me to this incredible event?
Here’s what the money ($2400) will go towards:
— A round-trip bus ride from SF <–> Northstar
— Participate in numerous planned discussions and meetings with those attending
— A stay with lodging from March 6-9
— Lift tickets at Northstar Lake Tahoe for March 7-8
— Snowboard equipment rental
— Or as the event claims, “come and get re-inspired, hang loose with other creatives, and to shred the hill with two full days of snowboarding/skiing.”
Really, this event lines up to be a great way to get to meet and know some of the most influential people in what I do, as well as other peers in my field. Who knows, it could help line me up with a job! I know I got what it takes, but a place like San Francisco has a lot of noise. This conference seems like a huge opportunity to at least start to get myself out there.
Fellow web developer/engineer/designer? I take good notes. If you donate and want me to share my learnings during the trip, I'll send them over.
If I can get 120 of my friends and family to spot me a $20, I’m there! Or 240 friends with a $10’er! Or 480 friends with just 5 bucks! You got the idea. I'd be forever indebted to you. I’m pleading, please help get me there!
