Triple B Care Projects - building a new clinic
Burns injuries are amongst the most painful and difficult injuries to treat. Without proper care and treatment these injuries can often result in serious infections, possible amputation of limbs and sometimes a even a slow painful death. Victims are often children and usually from poor villages and rural areas where families are not able to afford the necessary care required for a full recovery.
Val Smith-Orr, a Australian Registered Nurse and British trained specialist in Burns care & reconstructive surgery has been tirelessly working in the local community in a small 2 room facility to provide an International level of emergency and ongoing care to literally thousands of burns victims since 2006. This year she was recognised in the Queens Birthday Honours list with an Order of Australia Medal for Service to the international community through nursing.

Funding of £200,000.00 is required to help build a new larger, more modern and better equipped facility where care can be provided for more people in need and a wider range of support can be offered locally. The bigger facility would also give her access to a range of international doctors and nurses who have already offered to volunteer, but who cannot operate in the current facility.
Triple B care projects is a "not for profit" charity registered in Philippines and receives no government or institutional funding relying solely on charitable donations of money, medical supplies and equipment and the help of local and international volunteers.
The land is already purchased, planning permission has been granted and some funds have already been raised for part of the build and for new equipment.

In addition to catering for burns injuries Triple B provides a number of other treatments and services including "pre and post op" for operations to remedy cleft lip and palate, a de-worming service for round worm (Ascaris) which is a major cause of death and malnutrition in Asia and BPTE (Burns Prevention Treatment & Education) for local health workers, local government unit as well as teachers and pupils through the school network.

I heard about Val's work in the Philippines when she was being interviewed on Sydney Radio. As a retired dentist with time on my hands I contacted her offering whatever help I could and within weeks I was on my way to her 'clinic', a 4 hour bus journey North of Manila.
Upon my initial arrival I was surprised &shocked by everything I saw. Val was achieving First World outcomes with limited resources; little space and no operating theatre being the most obvious. No one is turned away. If Val is unable to provide the necessary treatment herself she will endeavour to have the patient treated by one of her networks of visiting charities such as ANZ Interplast.
