Hi, my name is June and I am mum to Elena, Mother in law to Ayya, and Grandmother to Casper, Orca and Earl Grey.

Ayya and Elena work in a dive centre in the Maldives. Known as a beautiful holiday destination for those who have abundant wealth, but not everyone who lives in the Maldives is well - off.

These two have chosen to make a new home for themselves in Thailand with a garden for their wonderful cats. Orca, Casper and Earl are playful, happy and very healthy. They have a tiny screened off outdoor space they can play in and lots of cat climbing structures in their small room.

They are currently living in a small room in the staff accommodation at their workplace, and it's cosy but not ideal for 2 humans and 3 cats... Ayya went to get ONE cat 4.5 years ago and could not take just one from the litter of 3 so he brought them all: two girls and a boy (all have been neutered of course - they thought they were all girls but when they realised Orca was a boy, it was a quick visit to the vets, and the girls went later).

Aside from these 2 outside visits they have lived a very protected life and will be very nervous to travel so they have been searching for any and all options for a long time now.

They have been working hard to raise the money for their new home and the transport to get them there. The deadline is getting very close: in the first week of May this year they need to be moving.

However, there are no airlines that will accept their cats on board or even in the hold for the 4 hour flight from Malé to Bangkok, and if they are to fly commercially it would mean an extremely long (20+ hours) and traumatic experience for all involved. The rules seem to have changed since Elena and Ayya first started making their plans 2+ years ago.

They are left with the only option of hiring a private plane, which will cost a minimum of $58,000 (£48,000) .

This is a huge blow to their budget, which is already stretched to cover the other expenses involved.

Family and friends have been helping as much as they can but have now decided to ask the wider community of friends and compassionate people around the world.

The only cost of this move that needs covering is the flight - everything else is being covered by Elena and Ayya.
