If there's anything I've learned after living on this Earth for 16 years, it would be that success is not determined by passion. Rather, it is determined by discipline and dedication. Luckily for me, my passion and dedication happen to be directed at the same thing: medicine.
Last month, I was blessed enough to have been the only one nominated for the 2017 National Youth Leadership Forum: Medicine in Chicago, IL at University of Chicago, a prestigious university ranked #3 in the nation after Princeton and Harvard. However, the costs associated surpass the costs available to my family at the moment. Thus, I'm asking for your help.
"At NYLF Medicine, you will visit a state-of-the-art medical simulation center where you will train like a professional and gain hands-on experience in a variety of medical procedures and technologies with guidance from experts."
As a 16 year old black student with aspirations to attend Cornell University, another top-ranked school, this opportunity is invaluable. I would be the first in my family to (hopefully) attend an Ivy League school and pursue a career as a Radiologist.
I'm a hard-working intellect with a 100 average, ranked top of my class, working 25 hours a week on average, leader/founder of multiple clubs, and an overall busy body. I work at two hospitals in San Antonio three days a week (currently have the pleasure of working in the Labor and Delivery ward, my favorite area ever) and I've worked extremely hard for an opportunity to pursue my passion to come around!
The total cost is about $3, 300, but I have applied for financial aid and hopefully, financial need and a compelling voice will get us far. However, I'd still need some help. I'd need to reach this amount by no later than May 2017, but the sooner, the better.
Any donation, large or small, would mean so much to me. No matter whether you can contribute $1, $10, or $100, I personally thank you. Even if you can't contribute anything, I still thank you for reading this far. I'm helping my family as much as I possibly can and covering airfare, so don't worry, they're making me work for it, too! ;-)
