Trinity's Medical Transition Fund

My name is Trinity Dysis, and I am an independent transgender college student and neuroscience researcher at Harvard University seeking medical transition.

As some of you may know, I was estranged from my family due to my gender identity, and thus lost all financial support from my parents, and haven’t lived with them since June of 2023. Four years of intense conflict and abuse with my parents have left me with a complete lack of physical and financial security.

Those of you who know me understand that I have ambitious goals for my life. You understand my passion for science and innovation, my drive to use my skills and experiences to help others, my love for the world and people and knowledge and beauty that I'm surrounded by. I want to use my time on this planet to truly contribute something incredible to our society. I want to dedicate my time to researching cutting-edge ways to prevent physical deterioration of the body and mind, implementing solutions to climate change, creating the next algorithm to change the field of AI research, sharing my passion for music and performance, and so much more. I want to be part of something that will make my younger self proud, and give her the courage to keep going, but the longer that I battle this dissonance between my internal and external self, the harder it will be for me to achieve these goals. I can’t do this while also fighting against my body. All of this is only possible if I can attain the medical care I need.

I suffer from severe gender dysphoria. I live with haunting dread every single day of my life, avoiding mirrors and cameras and people and everything around me that reminds me of the fact my body and being does not align with any internal image I can conjure. As a result of this severe cognitive dissonance, I have been battling severe depression, anhedonia, anxiety, internalized self-hatred, suicidal thoughts and attempts, and self-harm tendencies for years.

The decline of my mental health had gotten to the point where I could barely wake up for my classes or complete my assignments. This past academic term I nearly failed several courses, abandoned many of my hobbies, became disinterested in the things that made me passionate, and generally experienced a rapid decline in the quality of my life. I know that the life I currently live is not sustainable. The understanding that transition will provide me with the ability to fully embody the person I know I am is what has kept me going forward all of this time.

I have already put all of my current resources and what I will earn through the multiple jobs I am undertaking in the coming semesters towards my planned Sex Reassignment Surgery in August and my planned Facial Feminization Surgery in December. Insurance will cover portions of each of these surgeries, but even with this assistance the combined costs of both soars well above my current means, and there is also a very high probability that my health insurance will no longer cover these procedures after the end of this calendar year, making these unattainable. Without insurance, SRS will cost approximately $21,000, FFS will cost $84,000, and Laser Hair Removal, a prerequisite for these surgeries, has cost approximately $8,000. I am responsible for paying 30% of this sum~ $33,900, but also, unfortunately, I must also pay it completely out of pocket to then seek reimbursement, so I will have to take out a loan and make a ~ $16,000 down payment on top of the funds that I raise, bringing my total overhead ~$50,000. I hope to try to cover ~$30,000 on my own, but I cannot do this alone, and need your help.
