Alright everyone!! Not only is Cecilia 7 now, she figured out how to ride a bike at her most recent NAPA intensive therapy session!! NAPA Center (Neurological and Physical Abilitation) is one of those incredible places where miracles really do happen! The dedicated and loving physical therapists throw there all into helping special needs kids from all backgrounds and disabilities achieve goals beyond anyone's wildest expectations!
We went into this session (number 6 for those who are counting!) with the specific intention of Cecilia learning skills where she can use her body and movement for play rather than needing a toy or something else stimulating. We were really set on helping her bounce and tumble a little. She can be quite the daredevil! But, it just so happened that there was a special adaptive tricycle in the building that was on loan for trial at this time. Mostly out of curiosity, the therapist and Mom thought it would be fun try. Little did we know what would happen next! Cecilia just about took off!! We could not believe it! For us, this is on par or beyond the still elusive goal of her taking independent steps!!
We instantly knew we needed a bike like this in our lives. Just imagine Cecilia riding around the block and up and down the neighborhood!!! Such a simple joy that so many lucky kids take for granted!
Of course, to our dismay, as soon as we looked up the company and other similar bikes, we quickly realized they had the typical "Special Needs Price Point." In short, they cost as much a used car!
Me being the resourceful Papa that I am, I am trying any and all avenues to help my little love get all the joy and freedom from life that she can!
So if you are able, please consider helping out in our efforts to get Cecilia this amazing piece of equipment for her to enjoy!
The Tricycle we are reaching for is a Freedom Concepts Discovery Tricycle with a handful of additions like pedal straps, high seat support and side arms, easy pedal system and a few other helpful additions.
