Restore Tribute to Texas Children

Donation protected
As a reminder to Texas lawmakers to keep children at the heart of their decision making, schoolchildren in more than 600 Texas schools raised $190,000 over a five-year period to create the Tribute to Texas Children monument.

Created by world-renowned sculptor Lawrence Ludtke, the Tribute to Texas Children is a life-size bronze monument depicting six children on a field trip to the Texas Capitol. The monument was placed on the Texas Capitol grounds in 1998. Thousands of children visit each year making the Tribute to Texas Children the most popular monument on the Capitol grounds.

Currently two of the statues have been removed by the State Preservation Board due to deterioration, and the other four are showing signs of wear. All six statues need to be reinforced with a metal bracing system, and the site needs to be built up to prevent water from pooling.

Because repairs for monuments at the Capitol must be paid by private donations from citizens, TEPSA is coordinating the restoration effort.

Thank you for helping us preserve this important monument for Texas children!
