Tribute Tree in Cherokee Park for our Hooker
Donation protected
Update: Hello all! Just wanted to send a quick update on Erin's tree. I have requested a Dogwood. It still could end up another blooming tree such as a paw paw, redbud or buckeye depending on what the arborist say. The Olmsted is working on a spot in view of Gary and Jody's (friends of Erin's who have passed away over the last couple of years) but can't promise anything and if that doesn't work out she has requested a spot by Christenson's Fountain that she says is "looking promising".
The trees will be planted in December or January. She will contact me at least one week out so we can notify whoever wants to come or participate to be there. The planting will happen during working hours.
Once I have more details I will let everyone know!
Hello, my name is Trisha Abney and I would like to raise money to purchase a Tribute Tree in memory of our sweet and feisty friend, Erin Hook. Erin always loved when the tree in her front yard would bloom. I thought having a tree in Cherokee Park where we could all go "sit" with Erin would be a nice tribute to our friends. Plus, having her memory live on forever in the Highlands at the park right by her apartment seemed fitting.
I spoke with the Olmsted Parks today and told them I wanted the tree to be like the one in her front yard (pictured in cover photo). I believe it is a Dogwood, but they said I can send a picture to their arborist to confirm. They also told me that the best way to mark the tree is with an ornament from Louisville Stoneware that is designed to hang from the tree as it lessens the chances of it being broken by mowers or stolen by degenerates. The trees are planted in the fall and once I have a date for that I will let everyone know and all are welcome to attend.
The funds raised would go directly towards the purchase of the tree ($1000-1500 depending on the tree) and an ornament that would hang from the tree to signify it was "Erin's Tree" (still waiting on pricing but I am guessing minimum of $150). I have set the target at $2000 to cover above mentioned and fees. Any funds remaining will go to a Cat Charity that will be decided at a later date.
