When Jim Aspiotis fell ill unexpectedly over the 2020 holidays, it was a surprise to his friends and family. This sudden and unexpected health issue has been very stressful and difficult for his family.
Jim was the embodiment of a man dedicated to his family. He was married to his wife Cheryl for almost 29 years, and they shared their life with their two beautiful daughters, Demi and Victoria. His life revolved around his family - you could see the pride in his eyes when he spoke about his wife and daughters. He was also very close with his mother and his brother Steve.
Jim started his career in corrections as a Correctional Officer at the Toronto Jail in the early 1990s. From there he worked his way up through the ranks to Deputy Superintendent at the Toronto South Detention Centre. During Jim's outstanding career he had an extreme passion for conquering crime and eliminating gun and gang violence within the facilities that he dutifully served and out in the community.
Jim was the driving force behind the creation of the Ontario Corrections Intelligence Unit in 2011.
Jim was a board member and the current President of ONGIA (Ontario Gang Investigators Association) for over 20 years as well as representing Ontario as a board member of NAGIA (The National Alliance of Gang Investigators Alliance) in the United States of America.
He was passionate about the work he did and the future of corrections in Ontario. Jim was incredibly dedicated to his Family his Friends and his career.
The law enforcement family lost a brother unexpectedly too so
on.
