Treyson’s battle with an unknown illness

Treyson started his battle on February 3rd 2021. What started as a relatively normal day for all of us took a fast turn when the evening approached. Treyson was very fussy before dinner time but normal and healthy. I thought maybe his gums were bothering him because he is teething but at approximately 6:20 PM he had a seizure that lasted 10 minutes. We went to the ER and they told us that he had an ear infection and gave us a prescription and sent us home. Treyson’s condition deteriorated rapidly. We went back to the ER the next day when he wouldn’t wake and they said he was dehydrated, gave him fluids and sent us home. The next day Treyson started having seizures back to back, increasing in length each time. The doctors ordered a CT scan that showed a mass on his brain. We were air flighted to Covenant Children’s hospital in Lubbock. Treyson underwent several MRI and CT scans as well as many labs and cultures. He was given anti-seizure medication to stop the seizures and results of his scans showed signs of a brain infection. He was put on antibiotics and anti-viral medications immediately and they did a lumbar puncture to check for infections. All of his blood work and CSF labs have come back normal, indicating no infection which has puzzled the doctors because he was running a high fever for several days. They had a radiologist specializing in pediatric neurology look at Treyson’s scans and he said the damage was consistent with a stroke. On Sunday, February 7th Treyson lost all movement on the right side of his body and it looked like consistent with a stroke. He started regaining movement 24 hours later but some of his labs have come back with alarming results. They did another MRI and lumbar puncture because they found abnormal cells in his spinal fluid and now are exploring other illnesses besides stroke. Treyson is doing very well but we don’t have a solid diagnosis as to what has happened to him or if there is an underlying illness. Our team of doctors has let us know that we will be in the hospital for the foreseeable future while they work to find answers and have talked about a brain biopsy if they cannot get the answers they need from his labs. We’ve had several requests from friends and family about contributing so this GoFundMe has been set up for Treyson. If you can help, anything that can be given will go towards food, medical and travel costs as well as anything our baby boy needs while we are here.
