On August 24th, 2015, my son, Trevor was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer - T-Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. For a mother, it is the worse news you could ever get about your child.
Even though there is no cure for this cancer, the doctor at M.D. Anderson feels confident they can put this in remission through treatment. He will have to stay on top of this disease for the rest of his life to make sure it does not progress. That is the good news. The bad news, it is extremely expensive to fight any form of cancer. They expect to incur a large debt treating this disease. We are finding that as this process goes along that the bills are growing at a quicker rate than expected. As a parent, I have stepped in to help financially, however, it is not enough. Unfortunately, he does not have the best insurance. It is too expensive to get good insurance on a monthly basis for a self employed young small business owner. To be added to his wife's insurance it was going to cost $1,100 per month!!! I do not want cancer to steal their future and they be consumed with medical bills they can not pay and have the ability to continue treatment agressively. It is stressful as it is. I am only asking for a small portion of his medical expenses to help him during this difficult health and financial crisis. His income can not keep up with these sky rocketing medical expenses, it can end badly. Just to give you a small example of expenses, his first visit was $2500 to see his specialist at M.D. Anderson, plus blood testing was $1500. That does not include all the treatment.
He is blessed with a great doctor at M.D. Anderson. She is a choice we do not regret since she has had many years of experience with T-Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. This doctor has been a Principal Investigator of numerous clinical trials and translational research studies of T-cell mediated diseases and malignancies, including T-cell lymphomas, melanoma, and skin cancer. Their work is focused on developing and improving therapy for cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. This is definitely the right place and the right doctor for his diagnosis.
I raised my son to love and serve the Lord, serve others, take responsibility for his own actions, to never quit, be humble even when pride wants to take over, work hard, and to take care of his health. With ups and downs that we all go through, my son does everything he can to become all that God wants him to be and with God's help everyday. He devotes a large part of his time ministering to others through his music, traveling from church to church, or in public arenas for all to hear. For that, I am thankful and very proud. But even with our strong faith, I can honestly say, you are never prepared for this type of news. The very word "Cancer" gives anyone reason to pause. The whole family was stunned at this diagnosis.
He and his wife, Marenie, were not prepared for this mentally, let alone, financially. If you have it to give, please donate any amount you are comfortable with. Just think, if 350 people give $20 each, or if 700 people gave $10 each, either way we would have $7,000 and that is halfway there. That would help get him through the end of the year on his medical expense. That is just one example of how working together we can make a difference in these young people's lives. You can give anonymously or by name. You can also give in memory of a loved one that fought cancer and lost. Most of all, you can give any amount, $10, $20, $50, $100 or $1,000. It will all be greatly appreciated.
Please share this GoFundMe with your friends, family, and co-workers. That is the only way we will make our goal. Our website link is gofundme.com/trevormedicalfund.
