Trevor Albrecht Memorial Fund

On January 16th, the world lost a great Hero.  For those of you that do not know Trevor, let me take a few minutes to, admittedly inadequately, to describe him.  My hope is that you gleam some sort of insight into Trevor’s impact he played in the lives he came across.

Trevor stood  whooping 6’4 and probably 230lbs.  He was  giant among men.  Not the type that made you feel insecure, but the type that made you feel safe.  You were thankful to be in his presence.

He cared.

He cared for each and every one of the men and women at the Kenosha Police Department and made sure they knew it.  He was the “go to” man for the PD, yet he was the one who was humble enough to not only share that he needed help at times, but did so on camera so other men of the department were given the permission to seek help as well if they needed it.  He was a leader.

He loved his family.  The first time I met Jessie, his wife, I knew she was the one.  Before we even met Jess, Trevor, Phil, and I were at the hotel bar, and Jessie walked past a large glass window, and Trevor said, “that’s her.”  And I knew from that moment, she was the one.  It was Andy Stein’s wedding ( a former KPD officer).  She was the calm to his crazy.  She was the perfect mix of fun and stability.  She grounded him.  Trevor was a wild one, and Jessie brought out the calm in him.  He was a better man because of her, and in turn a phenomenal Father.  His children, Otto and Iris, will forever be the light of his life.  They were his reason for being the good in this world; for them.  For Jessie, for Otto, and for Iris.  He did his work unapologetically, for them.  For all of us, but for them.   When Jessie walked into a room, you knew she was his reason for living.  He loved her so much, and to be around them, was to feel it.

He was the man you wanted at any call.  He had the experience, the wisdom, and the grace needed to get any problem solved.  He saw people as they were and met them where they needed to be.  But he all business if he needed and you always knew you were safe when Trev was there.  He would go last so others could go first, or, when needed, he would go first to lead the way.  He was a man among men.  The one you wanted there.

He has, many times given us all security.  He has cheered us on, given us shots when our heart didn’t know what else to do, or a pep talk when we felt broken beyond repair.  He was the person you went to with your heartaches, your problems, your questions, or your fears.  He was all of this for so many of us.

Trevor was hilarious.  If you’ve ever heard any of his many impressions, you were in for a real treat!  Trevor always had everyone in stitches.  You just couldn’t not laugh when in his presence.  He just made you smile.  That was one of his many gifts.

This world is darker without him.  The Kenosha Police Department is left with a gaping hole without his leadership.  Before any stripes he was a leader.  He has always been leader.

We all feel broken right now.  Because quite frankly losing a man like Trevor Albrecht breaks us.  It feels so unfair, and unreal.  And a man this large cannot be gone like this.  It breaks us down, and it’s hard to see God’s hand in this.

This will take some time.  Trevor was one of the greatest.  And there will forever be a hole where he stood.
