Hello, my name is Tre Caesar. I am 27 years old recovering from a high level Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) that resulted from a Motor Vehicle Crash (MVC)on October 15, 2021. Since this day my life for my family and I has changed significantly. In turn, it has put a lot of pressure on my fiance’ to take care of the household physically and financially for our two daughters and myself.
After the MVC, I stayed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for about a month. During that time frame, I experienced my heart rate flatlining twice just a few days after my MVC and underwent multiple surgeries to stabilize my injuries to keep me alive. The MVC initially left me paralayzed from the neck down with a pacemaker to keep my heart rate stable. I am blessed to have surpassed many of the obstacles the doctors said I may not ever conquer, such as regaining function below the neck, but I still have a long road ahead of me.
I’ve learned how to breathe without assistance and feed myself again. I’ve done numerous rehabilitation exercises to help me regain some fine motor skills in my hands as well as motion of my legs and upper body strength. I look forward to regaining strength on the right side of my body to catch up to my left since I have more mobility on my left side with the development of some fine motor skills on my left hand and motion of my left leg.
Before returning home in December 2021, I was attending inpatient rehab where I learned many things about life with SCI and joining the community. Now that I am home with my family, I am attending an outpatient rehabilitation. My main reason for organizing this fundraiser is to purchase an accessible wheelchair van so that I am able to enjoy more family outings with my two young daughters and fiancé (as I am only able to leave the house by medicaid transportation for therapy and doctors visits). I will also be using the money raised here to help with the cost of my medical bills to continue my rehabilitation journey. My family and I are excited about the possibilities and opportunities having an accessible van will give us and we look forward to the many blessings there are to come. Thank you in advance for the support!
