Trekking for Terns - BirdWatch Ireland

This summer, I had the privilege of serving as a Volunteer Warden with BirdWatch Ireland on their Little Terns Project at Portrane Beach. The Little Tern is one of Ireland’s rarest breeding seabirds, and every year, these tiny, determined birds return from Africa to nest on our shores. Their nests are vulnerable to disturbance, predators, and storms - which is where wardens step in.

As part of a dedicated team, I helped monitor the colony, protect nesting areas and engage with beach visitors to ensure the birds could raise their young in safety. Thanks to these efforts, 42 chicks successfully fledged this season, a big win for a species in need of protection.

Now, I’m taking on another challenge close to my heart: attempting the climb of Mount Kilimanjaro. Whether I reach the summit or not, I hope you agree the challenge itself, and the journey to get there, is worth a donation, because every step helps raise awareness and support for vital conservation work.

Want to join me in making a difference? Every donation, big or small, will directly support efforts to protect Ireland’s precious birdlife for future generations. Thank you for helping me support a cause that means so much to me.

Thank you to everyone who participated in my 'How many sweets in the jar' competition raising €82
