Trekfest for APP

£861 of £500 goal

Raised by 26 people in 3 months
Hi and thank you for visiting my GoFundMe page.

On 6th July 2019, my mum and I will be attempting to complete the 25k Trekfest challenge on the SAS training ground of the Brecon Beacons with challenging climbs and steep descents, in the hope to raise some funds for Action on Postpartum Psychosis, a charity very close to our hearts.

Towards the end of 2014, following the birth of my second son, I was admitted to a mother and baby unit after being diagnosed with a rare illness we had never heard of until then, postpartum psychosis. My son and I remained in the unit for 8 weeks until I was well enough to return home and continue the recovery. In 2014 it was estimated that only 3 per cent of the country had access to perinatal mental health care, whereas now the country is on course to achieve full geographical coverage with the support of the Action on Postpartum Psychosis charity. At the time I was admitted to the nearest mother and baby unit which was over one hour away, but luckily I was able to get a bed and stay with my baby, many others unfortunately are not as lucky. There are now 17 mother and baby units across the UK, which on average have 8-10 beds per unit.

Postpartum psychosis is a severe mental illness that is seen as a psychiatric emergency, it effects 1 in 1000 new mums. Symptoms can include; depression, high mood (mania), confusion, delusions and hallucinations. It often occurs ‘out of the blue’ to women who have not previously been ill. With the right treatment and support women can make a full recovery.

Action on Postpartum Psychosis aims to:

• Provide up to date information to women who have experienced postpartum psychosis and their families
• Facilitate a peer support network for women and their families
• Increase awareness of postpartum psychosis, its symptoms, management and impact among health professionals and the general public
• Facilitate research into all aspects of postpartum psychosis
• Advocate for improved services for women and their families.

Thank you for reading, and your generosity, however big or small is massively appreciated.

Wish us both luck

How it Works
  1. You are donating to PayPal Giving Fund UK, a registered charity (No. 1110538), which will email you a receipt for your donation and claim Gift Aid where eligible.
  2. GoFundMe’s platform is free. The charity will typically receive the funds from PayPal Giving Fund within 15-45 days of your donation if the charity has enrolled (or 90 days if the charity has not yet enrolled). Unlike other platforms, 100% of any Gift Aid will go to the charity as well.
* In very limited cases, a recommended charity may cease to meet PayPal Giving Fund's legal or other eligibility requirements. In such cases, PayPal Giving Fund will reassign the funds to a similar charity, and (wherever possible) seek a new recommendation from donors.
