Trees for Wendigo Road, RM of Lac du Bonnet
Donation protected
Hi, I am Pamela Curtis and devastatingly...on May 13, 2025 in the Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet...28 cabins/homes were burned down...including my own family's on Wendigo Road.
#WendigoRoadStrong
As a cottage community, we are all grieving right now and this seems like a little bit of "moving forward".....and would benefit all affected and bring a sense of peace back to the community, neighbours, friends and anyone passing by.
Although insurance will cover personal losses for most neighbours...trees and vegetation are not normally covered most times on seasonal properties...and the entire area is now barren with no shade options including nearby public spaces.
Plans are being made to replant trees (seedlings will be planted) but larger...pre-established trees (6 - 15 ft) are at a higher cost and would significantly improve the future outlook of this area along our road not only for those who reside in this neck of the woods but more importantly for the animals...ecosystem and the overall health and welfare of all living things. Older trees would provide...branches for bird nests...tree frogs and all types of essential shade for all living floral and fauna.
A couple of larger trees on each lot at the driveway entrance with additional planting on MB hydro waterfront (when approved) would be amazing ... any additional monies would be used for plantings spread out over the road including Arlington Sports Camp and anywhere plantings are needed....
As this is a new experience for all of us, I was planning that all monies collected will be divided equally between lots via gift card to a local nursery for purchase of trees to ensure the funds are used for this purpose entirely.
If you are financially able and willing to donate to this cause...
Thank you
