On November 17th, Opening day of Wisconsin Gun season Tim Griswold, loving father and husband, had a bad fall from his tree stand. He was flown via flight for life to Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire, Wisconsin
The 17 foot fall from his tree stand left him in bad condition. The doctors are currently working to repair a torn aorta. He also has several broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a fractured pelvis, blood in his chest, and an injury to his adrenal gland and kidney.
After his initial surgery, he is stable and his aorta stent is in place. The doctor said the impact of the fall tore his artery to shreds but the aortic intima (lining) didn’t break and that’s the only reason he’s alive.
He was completely sedated and being closely monitored for the first night. Specifically his heart and pancreas as it is bleeding. He cannot breathe by himself so he is on a ventilator. Almost all of his ribs are fractured and his rib case is not connected so that needs to be repaired once his organs are stable.
While being on a ventilator, doctors determined his organs will be strong enough to do a whole reconstruction of his ribs and plate.
After surgery he now has five new titanium alloy ribs, and the other fractures will need to heal on their own. There is no internal bleeding so his organs will continue to be monitored and hopefully heal on their own, as well as his fractured pelvic bone. The doctor said all of his vitals stayed stable and his heart is going as strong as it can.
Tomorrow they will lower the amount of air he is getting from life support and see if he can breathe on his own. They think it will be easier to breathe now that his rib case is restructured, but we won’t know until he wakes up. He’s fighting like hell.
They can’t guarantee this will be his last surgery, but we are maintaining positive thoughts.
The family Thanjs you for your prayers- they are working. We love you all.
His initial prognosis is that he will be in the critical care unit there for 2-3 weeks minumum, and it will be many months before he is up and running again at full speed.
He is getting a little better every day,
His wife Renee and two daughters, Jessica and Jennifer, need to be at his side, and Eau Claire is far from where they live and work.
Financially, this is a difficult situation. Even though they understand that, they are determined to stay put until Tim gets out of Intensive care.
Over the weekend we were blessed with a very few moments of Tim being able to communicate with us through his tears and squeezes of his hand. I wish that everyone could see how that strengthened EVERYONE'S hearts, but especially the guy going through such a life changing and life threatening ordeal. Due to the intensity of his pain we all understand that his girls need to be there for him as those moments hopefully become more and more common. Thank you in advance for anything you can do to help that happen.
Please feel free to share share share this post. I will try to keep giving constant updates as to how its going, and hope to acknowledge everyone personally as we go.

Through every tragedy comes a story of great Love. The Griswolds are already seeing how true that is.
Thank you!
