Treatments for our daughter at the Stollery
Donation protected
On December 22nd at 10:00 am my wife received a call from our daughters nurse at the Stollery children’s hospital informing us that her upcoming infusion treatment could not be ordered because Alberta Blue Cross had denied payment. She advised us to verify with them and see what was the issue. I called Alberta Blue Cross only to be told my employer had canceled our family benefits on December 18th 2020. No warnings, at this point I had no idea what was happening. I called my place of employment and was then told I was laid off as of December 18th 2020. I was never made aware, I left for Christmas Holidays on December 18th, was wished happy holidays and left for my holiday. I was not aware until the 22nd when the nurse called that I no longer had coverage. They laid me off without warning, without pay I am left with a daughter who requires Infusions every 3 weeks for a severe autoimmune disorder, she also is immunocompromised And has 2 auto inflammatory diseases. She cannot function without her treatments, it leaves her bed ridden and very sick with major flares. The cost is just short of 3,000 dollars every 3 weeks. Not including her other pain medication as well as her appointments for mental health not covered by AB healthcare. I was not given a chance from my employer to be able to refill her medication or even seek other employment, it was inhumane, and cruel what they did. They are aware of my daughters medical needs. Please if you can see fit in your heart during these shard times to help my family would be so grateful. Hope you all have a good holiday season. Stay safe.
