Treatment in Thailand

Hi my name is Steve and I am fundraising for my brother Mike Waller. In early October of 2018 at the age of 52 my brother Mike suffered a stroke. This was brought on by 1-inch blockage in his right carotid artery. When he got to the hospital he was given blood thinners and a clot buster shot. Mike started showing improvements right away and after 4 days was given a weekend pass for Thanksgiving. He returned to the hospital Monday with everyone thinking he would be released the next day. What we didn't know was the clot buster didn't dissolve but just softened up the blockage with fragments of it causing the second stroke. This one cause damage to Mike's brain leaving him unable to speak and Paralysis on his right side. He has no use of his right arm but he can stand and take steps with a cane. The last four and a half years have been a real battle for someone as outgoing and active as Mike. In that time he went from the hospital, to Halifax rehab, to a private rehab, to being home for a year and then to a nursing home in Sheet Harbour for the last year. A few months ago Mike made the decision to make me his power of attorney. I am also his prime caregiver. The first thing we did was to get Mike his own apartment in our hometown of Truro, Nova Scotia. This was wonderful for Mike's mental health having gained a little independence.

Since Mike has been home we have been online searching the latest technology in stroke recovery, that is when we came across a clinic in Bangkok Thailand called Verita Neuro. They specialize in spinal cord and brain injuries from accidents and stroke. I have sent all of Mike's medical records and two different CT scans one right after the stroke and one as recent as May 3rd 2023. After a video consultation with the doctors we are happy and excited to say that Mike has been accepted for Verita Neuro's Stem cell treatment protocol. As soon as we raise enough money to go Mike and I will travel to Thailand for 7 days to receive the stem cells and supportive Therapies. Mike is really hoping this will give him a better quality of life, he wants nothing more than to regain his speech and ability to communicate which has been so hard for him for the last four and a half years.
