My name is Sidharth Dedhia and I am 16 years old seeking a future career in medicine. I am currently a junior at Irvine High School in Irvine, California where I will graduate next spring. During summer of 2016, I had an amazing opportunity for a unique, hands-on, face-to-face approach to medicine that is not possible nor available in the United States. While visiting my ancestrial village in the rural part of Gujarat, India, I encountered food poisoning from some snacks I had eaten on my way there. The only place where I could receive treatment for my sickness was the Bidada International Hospital, where they treated me free of charge. After recovering and experiencing the amazing free care given to the all patients, no matter their background, I chose to return back and help the others that were sick- whether it may be by interacting with children during therapy or simply comforting them while they were waiting. I made a conscious decision subsequently to find other ways to support this great institute.
Bidada International Foundation (EIN: 273910204) is a charitable non-profit organization based in rural Kutch, Gujarat, India which is committed to render medical and surgical treatment to patients of all age and race. Without constant electricity and water, this hospital surrounded by villages serves as the sole source of medical treatment for millions of people. Every January there is a medical camp where hundreds of volunteers from the United States and Mumbai serve 20,000 patients from over 1,200 villages. Due to the poverty that surrounds the hospital, the medical treatment cost is paid by the contributions from those who are fortunate enough to donate. Generations of families receive healthcare through this non-profit organization and it is our job to provide a means for them to obtain this treatment.
My mission is to sponsor at least one of the thirty camps Bidada International offers for the cost of $8000 that covers the care for thousands of patients including hundreds that are admitted for surgery. In the summer of 2018, I plan to serve the patients alongside the traveling doctors once again and sponsor the current medical camp with every penny generated from this campaign.
The amount of money does not need to be 20, 50, or 100 dollars - even 5 dollars or a single dollar makes an impact on the lives of these people. If you are not in a position to donate at this moment, please share this go-fund-me to raise awareness for the Bidada International Foundation. Join me and let’s do our part in helping the less fortunate!
