Treatment for Josh White
Donation protected
Hi,
As many if you know, my brother, Josh, is struggling with long-haul COVID. He sustained serious brain and lung injuries at the end of 2021/start of 2022. We are trying to help him fund an expensive treatment, and we are asking family and friends who have the means to contribute to getting Josh back to himself and enjoying life again.
Over the past five months, Josh has undergone at least 70 sessions of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (under the Tel Aviv Protocol, as pioneered by world-renowned expert, Dr. Shai Efratti out of Tel Aviv, Israel.) Dr. Lin Weaver, head of hyperbaric medicine for Intermountain Healthcare, Josh’s “offensive coordinator,” as Josh describes him, has worked tirelessly in helping Josh with his Team, including pulmonologist; neuropsychology; critical care; and various researchers who are eager to use the data Josh has provided to help other patients.
At present, Josh’s lungs have fully recovered. He has also made significant gains in improving stem/brain-cell regeneration (healing in his brain). On his best days, he feels like he is at about 75% capacity. However, he continues to struggle with the devastating symptoms of brain injury, occasional tremors (like a Parkinson’s Disease patient), and perhaps the most unbearable, excruciatingly painful attacks on his central nervous system — usually felt most strongly in his legs, and in the middle if the night.
Due to the efforts of Dr. Weaver, Dr, Efratti and his Team have agreed to admit Josh to their 360° long-haul COVID clinic. Although Josh will be able to do some work during the three months he is there, this program will require a hard timeout — an immersive focus on hard work and much rest, all for the purposes of recovery. In fact, Josh will have a tailor-made program, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy; a dietitian/nutritionist; physical therapy/training; pulmonologist/exercise physiology; neuropsychology; and sleep and lung specialist, with sleep psychology — as well as other professionals, as needed.
Prognosis for full recovery is high, based on 100s of long-haul COVID patients who have come to Dr. Efratti’s centers located in Tel Aviv; Dubai; and Orlando. In fact, Dr. Efratti and his Team are (so far) the only peer-reviewed publishers articles showing the efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, as applied to long-COVID brain injury. (See links, below.)
Notwithstanding appeal after appeal, Josh has been unable to prevail in obtaining insurance coverage for his treatment. I am aware that he has used virtually all of his savings, and even tapped into retirement and 401k for all that this long-COVID experience has cost him. Our family is doing what we can to help supliment the cost of his treatment, but, out of necessity, we are taking this additional step of inviting others to help raise money for Josh’s care and recovery. Specifically, with significant efforts to persuade Josh to let me help him; I have prevailed in my request that Josh allow me to raise money from a very select group of people whom Josh considers his friends (or family friends), family, colleagues, and others. Unless you desire otherwise, I will keep all contributions (or no contributions) completely anonymous. Thank you for helping my brother — and your friend, family member, colleague, and/or lawyer-warrior.
Josh is determined, with his characteristic iron will, to overcome. But many of you also know that he can sometimes struggle with patience.
We greatly appreciate any contribute you may be able to make.
Warm Regards,
Jake White
