Hi everybody,

My name is Dan and I am the son of Grant Slater, who most of you know as the loveable, talented and most of all kind-hearted musician that, at some point, has made you laugh with a Bullwinkle impression or an accordion solo.

Now he needs your help to fight a terrible disorder that is threatening to take his life away.

This year my dad was diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), a cognitive disorder that includes the symptoms of dementia. Unfortunately, the effects of this have been rapid and have severely affected his quality of life. This is not to say that he isn't the same Grant that we all love. But it is becoming harder and harder for him to be himself.

Luckily, he has a great support system and the people around him immediately sprang into action. Led by his loving wife, Kim, he was placed within the Canadian health system. But as we all know, the hospital system is strained, and after a series of cancelled appointments, misdiagnosis, and general apathy, he was eventually tested for, but deemed not to be, a candidate for the standard NPH treatment - shunt surgery that drains excess fluid from the brain.

Luckily, through Kim's family in Ohio, he was swiftly accepted into the world renowned Cleveland Clinic. He has already travelled to Cleveland twice for his intake consult appointment and testing. Based on the level of care and expertise experienced by the doctors there, we finally have reason to believe again.

More trips to the Cleveland Clinic are ahead, and obviously, accessing medical care in the US is not covered by OHIP. Any procedures, travel costs, and treatments he needs are all out of pocket expenses – much of which is required to be paid in advance.

We are all committed to helping him get his life back. So I'm asking all of you to help relieve the financial burden this will place on Grant and his family. We don't know yet what this will cost, but we know it will be more than we are asking.

All funds will be used to cover medical expenses at the Cleveland Clinic.
