Recovery For Justice

Hi My Name is Ginae, I’m the single mother of my perfectly healthy, active & independent 11 year old daughter Justice Luster. I’m creating this account for my daughter who’s life drastically changed in a matter of days. On September 16, 2023 about 8pm Justice became Erratic, Belligerent, Confused, Aggressively and Verbally Violent! which isn’t close to her character nature at all. I rushed her to Kaiser Emergency where they did testing to rule out any substance that could have altered her personality, they found nothing and sent us home. Then next day she was very disturbingly calm so I took her to a different Kaiser Emergency results were the same and were sent home again. As day 3 approached she began vomiting uncontrollably so we had a visit with her physician I explain to them her behavior prior and our emergency visits & they just prescribed her nausea medication and sent us home. I knew something was wrong with her and I didn’t feel easy letting her sit in this state she was in so again I rushed her to Highland Hospital in Oakland were she was still vomiting & they immediately sent us to Children’s Hospital

On Sept 18th around 9pm we were admitted ( and is still currently admitted ) after I explain Justice’s behavior. They told me they need to run some test. They Tested her spinal & brain fluid that night but said results would take a few days and we couldn’t go home. Hours later justice started losing her ability to control her body movements, she couldn’t eat on her own, she couldn’t walk, talk or move!! They told me we shouldn’t wait for the test results and needed to start treatment immediately “ clinically they knew something was going on with her brain “

Sept 19th they started a ( 5 day ) treatment using Steroids and a IV infusion ( IVIG ) to calm inflammation in her brain. Sept 20th My baby started having seizure like “ episodes “ everyday since and is now losing her speech … Sept 25th justice was Diagnosed with Anti-NMDAR Encephalitis. There are a couple of different ways to treat it but they have yet to find a cause for this disease or the right treatment to help my daughter. The first treatment didn’t work so well & we are now a week in with Treatment #2 ( Rituximab ) and the process is very slow I haven’t seen any progress since the second treatment started and we are living at the hospital now. I am not able to work because I’m here 24/7 feeding, cleaning, nursing and caring for my daughter with an 11month old baby at home desperate for some answers and improvement with my oldest daughter condition.

As a mother I’m devastated watching my daughter fight for her life it has me begging god to let me trade places with her!! she’s only 11 she has so much life ahead of her I’m hoping with this account and your support it’ll help take care of her medical treatments as well as her future with physical and speech therapy. 10/21 : We are still admitted into the hospital and justice has had her 2nd dose of Rituximab and is showing some improvement As well as starting occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy.
