Hi, my name is Brooke and I’m the proud mum of my beautiful 11-year-old daughter, Skyla.

Recently, Skyla was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata, an autoimmune condition that causes sudden hair loss when the immune system attacks the hair follicles. Within weeks, her long thick hair fell out, leaving her nearly bald. Watching this happen to my child has been heartbreaking.

Skyla has also faced bullying at school, with cruel rumours spread about her and even threats to pull off her wig. My once bubbly little girl became withdrawn and lost her confidence.

I took her to a hair loss specialist in Sydney who helped us get a custom human-hair wig. I’ll never forget the moment she looked in the mirror and said, “Mum, I feel pretty again.” It gave her confidence back and helped her feel like herself again.

Unfortunately, these wigs are extremely expensive, often costing $3,500–$20,000, and with daily use they usually last 6–12 months. Skyla’s current wig is already wearing out. We are also exploring treatments to help manage her condition, but many medications and specialist treatments are not covered by concession.

I’m reaching out for help so I can continue supporting Skyla. Donations will go towards:

• Medications and treatments not covered by PBS

• Specialist appointments and related expenses

• Anything that helps Skyla rebuild her confidence and feel like herself again
