Travis Park Church Building Recovery Fund

Travis Park Church is one of the oldest congregations in San Antonio, Texas. Since 1846, our church has served the needs of this city. Travis Park Church (TPC) is considered the “mother church” of the Rio Texas Annual Conference (formerly the Southwest Texas Conference) of the United Methodist Church.

Today, TPC is known for its proactive stance on matters of social justice and human rights.  We are a community of people seeking to be disciples of Jesus Christ by practicing unconditional love and justice for all.  To that end, Travis Park’s buildings are used for much more than worship.  Our buildings house important missions such as Corazon Ministries, which serves San Antonio’s homeless and marginalized neighbors by providing hot meals, clothing, showers, and access to medical/optometry/dermatology care and other services. Since March 2019, TPC has served as an overnight shelter to house more than 25,000 migrants seeking asylum in the United States.

On the night of Oct. 25, 2019, TPC sustained significant damage, as heavy rains caused the roof of one of its buildings to collapse. The roof collapse set off the fire sprinkler system, and major flooding occurred throughout the church’s buildings. While we are fortunate that no one was injured and that the historic sanctuary received only minor damage, most of the remaining site received significant flood damage. While much of the damage will likely be covered by insurance, we anticipate that we will face significant expenses that are beyond the financial capability of our congregation.

We are asking for your support in helping us get back on our feet. Donations will be used to help us be able to continue to provide the ministries serving the San Antonio community.
