Hello for some of you who may not know, I had my beautiful baby boy on June 15th, 2023 at 2:22pm who was forced to enter this world 6 weeks to soon. Over the course of a few days, I ended up with severe preeclampsia which lead to an emergency preterm delivery in Grand Forks, ND in order to protect myself and baby.
Westyn was born 4.9 lbs, 17.37 inches long and wasn’t able to breathe on his own due to his under developed lungs. Immediately upon having him, he was taken back with the NICU care team where he had to receive intensive care. This was the scariest time of my life and seemed like an eternity before I could finally see him again.
His breathing is in stable condition as a machine is doing the work for him, however, he is still struggling with the magnesium that I was given during labor to keep my blood pressure down. He keeps losing weight and is now dealing with jaundice so they will be placing him under the lights to help with that as well. With his condition he will be admitted here for a long while so he can rest and recover.
Currently, my blood pressure levels are not coming down without the help of medication and they want to keep me for another day. The hardest part right now is knowing I will be leaving my baby boy in the hospital for several weeks, when I just want him to be able to come home with me. Even though we are an hour away from home, I will be staying in Grand Forks with him so I can breastfeed and be with him through this very difficult time.
Westyn’s dad, August, has to leave tomorrow to go back to work to make sure we can stay afloat with our living finances and not loose our apartment, vehicle and other items.
I hate asking for help like this but anything helps during this unsuspecting trauma that has happened to us, even if you are only able to share our story it helps and we are very grateful.
Any and all donations will go towards living and travel expenses so we can be together in this time of need for our family.
