Traveling and Training to get my Service Dog.
Donation protected
I (Lyle Knigge) am a US Navy veteran, former EMT, and former fighter. In the military I sustained injuries and carried those injuries and incurred further health issues in the Fire and EMS services.
Recently, I lost my Service Animal and beloved family member, Kassie, due to health issues.
After Kassie passed, I was accepted into a program that will train a Service Animal for me to be her successor. The organization, Northwest Battle Buddies (NWBB), has agreed to supply me with a new service animal and all the related equipment -- which amounts to over $20,000.
However, I am responsible for covering costs for the hotel, fuel, and gas while traveling from my home to NWBB from October to November later this year for training in the Vancouver/Portland area. My out-of-pocket costs will roughly be:
• $3,200 for the hotel (I have the quote/paperwork for this cost and am using the hotel recommended by NWBB, as this is where they send all training teams)
• $1000 for fuel to and from the NWBB location
• $1000 for food during the month I will be with NWBB for training
• $1400 for additional costs (emergencies, pet insurance, etc.)
I am asking for assistance as I am limited in income and the reason for the overages is for flex/unexpected extras that may come up during training.
Another service animal will help me tremendously to retain and improve my quality of life. Any amount small or big will be incredibly helpful, and I am extremely grateful to anyone that contributes to my future with a trained Service Animal. Thank you.
