Travel to Poland - Ukrainian Refugee Volunteering
Donation protected
One of my dearest friends, Ada Lunoak, is preparing to embark on a life-changing journey to Poland, during which she will be volunteering to help the displaced people of Ukraine….her people. Please join me in helping her to offset the costs of her journey so that she can do this important and meaningful work.
While we have all watched on with horror, sadness, and anger for weeks and months as Russia’s invasion and war crimes have continued in the Ukraine, Ada’s reaction has been deeper and more personal, for Ada is a second-generation Ukrainian-American.
In her words: “I come from a long line of Ukrainian freedom fighters from Lviv, Ukraine. My mother and her parents left Lviv in 1945: WWII had just ended and the Soviet Union was taking over Western Ukraine. Some of my family stayed to fight for Ukrainian independence and were either killed or imprisoned in Siberia. The rest of my family fled Ukraine and landed in a refugee (“displaced persons”) camp, where the kindness of local people kept children like my mother from succumbing to disease and malnutrition.”
In July, Ada will be flying to Kraków, Poland, transporting as many donated humanitarian and medical supplies as she can carry to grassroots organizations that will then deliver these supplies to the frontlines, to hospitals, and to refugees. Ada plans to remain in Poland for up to 3 weeks, volunteering in refugee camps.
Her travel and lodging expenses include:
$2000 for air and ground travel to and from Poland
$1260 for lodging ($60/night for 21 nights at hostels)
$740 for miscellaneous ground travel costs in Poland
Thank you for considering offering financial support for Ada’s travel expenses to Poland. Any amount you can give will help make a difference to the people impacted by this war, by helping Ada directly be of service to those who need it the most.
