Hello, my name is Linus Schmidt. I am a Cardist living in Brooklyn, New York. Cardistry is the art of card flourishing, in other words, fancy cuts and shuffles with an ordinary deck of playing cards. This year is the third annual Cardistry-Con which is taking place July 9-11, 2017 in Los Angeles. Cardistry-Con is a three day event that consists of lectures, demonstrations and workshops from the top Cardists of the world. “Jamming” where you get to hang out and exchange ideas while handling cards is a big part of the event. I will have the opportunity to learn other Cardists signature moves and expand my knowledge on the art form. I have attended local “Jams,” (unofficial events) where New York cardists come together to shuffle cards and have a good time. Cardistry is my passion. I’ve invested two years of my life into learning, practicing and creating original flourishes.
Cardistry is a creative outlet for me and has pushed me into other creative fields such as photography and design. I have taken inspiration from this art form and used it towards designing my own decks of playing cards, logos and even clothing. Although Cardistry and Magic aren't related, I worked at Fantasma Magic, a shop located in Manhattan, over the summer and learned from and interacted with cardists that would enter the shop.
The most important aspect of Cardistry to me is the phenomenal community. I have met some of my closest friends through cardistry. Even though the community is spread throughout the world and includes a wide range of ages, we all share the common love for this art form. These caring people whom I've skyped and messaged countless times will be coming together in California from Spain, Singapore and Denmark to meet at Cardistry-Con and exchange ideas. If I can attend I will have the opportunity to meet so many of my idols and friends in person as well as partake in this truly remarkable event.
I am asking for your help in funding a trip to attend Cardistry-Con. I will be accompanied by my chaperone (mom). If you are able to contribute to this GoFundMe Campaign I would be so grateful and you would be providing me with a meaningful experience that I will never forget.
