Travel support for an earthquake victim student
Donation protected
Dear Friends,
My name is Zelha Nil. I am a postdoctoral associate in molecular genetics/neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine. My home country, Turkiye, was hit by two major earthquakes of 7.8 and 7.6 magnitudes on Feb 6th, 2023, affecting ten cities populated by ~15 million people. So far, over 50,000 people have lost their lives, and millions are dispossessed of everything they once had. Many students have faced challenges in continuing their education due to changes in the regulations. I believe helping students through academic scholarships is one way I can make some difference in their lives in the long run; therefore, I arranged a paid internship opportunity for a student in our laboratory.
This fundraising aims to provide travel support for the student who will join our laboratory in August 2023. Her name is Helin Polat and she is studying in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Middle East technical University. Due to the earthquake, she and her family lost their homes and jobs, and had to relocate from Hatay to Ankara in Turkiye. My goal is to raise 2000$ to help her travel to United States.
I am asking for your help, and I will be grateful for your support. I will update all donors on how I spent any funds that I raised here.
Thank you.
