My sister, Tonya Rudd, has a rare vascular disease called MoyaMoya. After about 12 years and 4 strokes, we have this diagnosis and know the best way to prevent more strokes. Tonya needs to have surgery on both sides of her brain to increase the blood flow which progressively gets more constricted without the procedure. There will be two surgeries - one for each side of the brain done at different times.
There is only one specialized MoyaMoya team in the United States, Stanford in California.
They have accepted Tonya as a patient and we have scheduled the procedures. Now we need to get from VA to CA and we need to stay for 3 weeks so she can have two procedures with a few days between them.
I have donated the airline tickets for Tonya and me to get to CA. We have 5 nights of the hotel covered thanks to points donated by a friend. But we still have 16 nights of hotel, rental car, food, and other incidental costs to cover. We would greatly appreciate your support.
Tonya is a single parent with a new freshman in college, and two teens at home with her. Tonya will not be able to work for about a year after the procedures and has not been able to work since July due to the impacts of the last stroke.
