The Western Buddhist Monastic Gathering (WBMG) is an annual gathering for Buddhist monastics who are living in the West and teaching Western disciples. $3,000 is needed to support the travel expenses of nuns and monks participating in the 2026 WBMG at Sravasti Abbey in Newport, WA. After 25 years of gatherings and a hiatus due to Covid, this will be our first in-person gathering since 2019! (Visit https://www.monasticgathering.com for more info.)
The WBMG allows monastics from all Buddhist traditions to meet together in a supportive environment, where we can learn from each other and deepen our spiritual connections. All donations will be used to purchase travel tickets for ordained nuns and monks attending this year's gathering.
Not all monks and nuns live in large, well-supported communities. Some who wish to join our gathering live in small communities that struggle to obtain basic needs of life. Many monastics in the USA are individuals living on their own in utter poverty (of body though not in spirit). These are the ones who most need to join with their fellows for encouragement to continue in the holy life, and yet they have the most difficulty getting together the travel fare. Therefore, to support the dedicated members of the Buddha's ordained sangha, please give generously!
Any unused funds will go towards the next WBMG travel fund.
