We are asking for your help in supporting our Butte College colleague Michael Lao and his family as they are caring for their son Aaron during a long-term illness. Michael is the sole earner in his family as a classified employee at Butte College.

On February 17, 2018 Michael’s son Aaron was diagnosed with leukemia. Because Aaron is a minor (17), he is not able to receive medical treatment locally and his family must travel to UC Davis Pediatric Cancer Care Center to receive his necessary medical treatments. Aaron’s family lives in Chico, CA, which is 112 miles north of Davis, CA. We are asking for you to help Michael pay for transportation costs, mostly fuel expenses, some overnight lodging, and meal costs for Aaron and his parents when they have to stay overnight for his treatments.

Aaron cannot drive himself to UC Davis, and he receives 3-4 treatments/week. His doctor has explained that in August and September his treatments will be more intense and occur more frequently. Aaron’s family members take turns taking their sick leave to take Aaron to his treatments, but there is still the heavy burden of weekly fuel costs, especially since gas prices have risen so steeply this year. 

We appreciate any and all support you can give to Aaron during his courageous fight against leukemia. His spirits are high, and he has a very positive outlook as he prepares for College Connection at Butte College this coming fall. Please help us support Aaron and his family, and any amount you can provide is greatly appreciated.
