Travel Expenses for the Women of Mississippi

 

 

 

 

 

As the final ruling of the Supreme Court regarding Roe vs. Wade is known, we sadly consider our options at Jackson Women's Health. 13 states ( Mississippi included) have trigger laws, which will force them to close all clinics almost immediately. Another 13 states will likely enforce severe restrictions on abortion access. The already challenging hurdles that women need to cross will become increasingly difficult, and probably impossible for many women, especially poor women and people of color.

 

While this turn of events has saddened us at Jackson Women’s Health, we will not be deterred by the overturning of Roe vs. Wade. The people at Jackson Women’s Health Organization are opening a clinic ( Pink House West) in Las Cruces, NM, on the border of Texas. The ability for women to travel out of state, the cost and time off work will become a huge burden if not impossible for many women.

 

As such, we are requesting money for travel funds for the women of Mississippi. We hope to be able to use our connections in New Mexico and Boston to help streamline care but will continue to work to make connections elsewhere as needed to increase access.

Distance from Jackson, MS to Boston, MA: 1422 Miles 22 hours

Distance from Jackson, MS to Grant City, IL 501 miles, 8 hours.
