Travel Expenses for the Family of Gerry Meegan

Donation protected

Please help Anne and Mary Anne travel to be with Gerry, the most important person in their lives, who is very seriously ill. Your donation can help Gerry's family make the journey from Kilkenny to St. Vincent's in Dublin so they can be with him and help his journey to recovery.

Just before Christmas, Gerry contracted chickenpox: a serious illness for healthy adults, but for him far more devastating and life-threatening because he was already living with lung fibrosis, an incurable condition for which he's needed oxygen for long periods of time.

Over Christmas, Gerry had to be put into an induced coma because the virus had attacked his already seriously damaged lungs. He was transferred to St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin in early January and has spent weeks on a ventilator. He is now awake but has had to have a tracheotomy so he cannot speak.

It is very important that Gerry is visited regularly in hospital by his family as the days are very long so far from home and away from them.

Gerry’s friends have come together to raise money so that Anne and Mary Anne can afford to travel to be with Gerry on his long journey towards recovery.

We are not looking for huge financial support but a cushion for the family to help them through this very challenging time. Please contribute a little if you can afford to help.

Gerry Meegan is a native of Ballyduff, Thomastown, County Kilkenny. His parents Minnie and Gerry were much respected people in that locality. Gerry’s father, Gerry Meegan Senior, was the last person to work Ballyduff Mill. Up until the 1960s Gerry Senior milled animal feed for farmers from miles around.Young Gerry, the youngest of the family inherited his father’s ability to fix things. In particular, Gerry worked on plumbing, heating and other jobs around Kilkenny and further afield. He is greatly missed in the community by his family, friends and neighbours.
